Characters

Malcolm Haddock - An heir to the Haddock Estate and one of six of the offspring of Alistair and Miriam Haddock.  Antisocial bibliophile and well-meaning werewolf who is baffled by Miss Marlowe's interest in him, he tries to rebuff her advances until she courts Sir Drexel--a deadly womanizing werewolf--to make him jealous.  He tells Isolde about what Drexel truly is and formulates a ruse to begin a false courtship with her to keep her safe.  Generally has a long fuse but will snap and say/do things he regrets when that fuse reaches its end.

Isolde Marlowe -  A stubborn young woman who recently moved to the town of Broadburn.  Hired by Mrs. Haddock as a companion.  Seems to know about Malcolm Haddock's lyncanthropism when they first meet and after the rash decision to court Sir Drexel to annoy Haddock, becomes involved in a false courtship in Haddock in order for her to stay out of Drexel's clutches.  Isolde is an unconventional young woman who isn't afraid to say what's on her mind and can come off as forceful.

Mrs. Haddock - Malcolm Haddock's mother.  An invalid busybody who hired Isolde Marlowe as a companion (mainly to deliver the town gossip to her and provide someone of the Female Persuasion to talk to).

Sir Bertrand Drexel - A rich jerk who shares Malcolm Haddock's lyncanthropy affliction.  A womanizer in human form and a killer in wolf form, he got into a fight while in wolf form with Haddock a few years back that earned him his infamous facial scars and sent him packing until he felt bold enough to return to Broadburn.  Furious that Haddock stole away Isolde from him and sees her as a prize to win back.

Florence Huntington - Malcolm Haddock's old flame and a fellow lycanthrope.  They were almost married before they separated on bitter terms.

Evans - The Haddock's loyal and laconic butler who, along with the rest of the staff, knows about the Family Affliction.  Used to be a battlefield surgeon, so he knows how to patch people up if need be.

Fiona Haddock - Fiona is the most like her mother, being a kind spirit who is a little more softspoken.  She's married to a fellow named Roger and they have five little ones.

Ainslay Haddock - Ainslay is the Negative Nancy sibling married to a hypochondriac werewolf named Felix.  She doesn't intend on having any children in the near future since she's a bit OCD herself and is always complaining about things getting dirty.

Douglass Haddock - Douglass is the brother who died along with his father Alistair at sea.  He was the one who kept the siblings together, being the serious arbitrator of the group.  He left behind a fiancee named Celeste who hasn't married since his death.

Grant Haddock - Grant is the wild child of the family who loves to brawl just for the heck of it, so he signed up for the British Army.  He returned from fighting overseas in the war between France to act as a training sergeant in the current timeline of the story.  He's also something of a ladies' man, breaking many a heart during his travels overseas.

Monroe Haddock - Monroe prefers reading to fighting and owns a tailor shop in a small town.  He and his wife, Anna, are expecting their first set of children.

Alistair Haddock - The husband of Miriam and father to the Haddock clan, Alistair was a good man who ran his household with both a firm and merciful hand.  He did his best to see that all of his children received their fair share of his attention, and that the staff were looked after.  He died with his son, Douglass, (arguably his favorite child) at sea when the ship they were on was blown out of the water by marauders.
